In 2005 he moved to Israel where he served in the IDF and then completed his studies at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, where he earned his BFA. He opened up an art studio in Tel Aviv which he ran and operated for a few years before moving back to the U.S., where he currently resides.
Shaul Ryan would call his style of painting a mixture between Graphic novel, Pop, Baroque, Romantic and, Renaissance Art, drawing inspiration from artists such as Frank Miller, Roy Lichtenstein, Peter Paul Rubens, Caravaggio and Eugene Delacroix. Many of his artworks, in which he depicts stories and events from his life and education, are influenced by his religious upbringing, and his time spent serving in the IDF. Through this artwork, Shaul Ryan attempts to portray exciting and dynamic events in a way that truly provides the viewer with a glimpse through the window through which he sees the world.
